Matthew 16:19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
The keys to the kingdom are a symbol for authority, government, and power. These keys can open and close spiritual doors; meaning opportunities and privileges. Revelation 3:7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, these things says He who is Holy, He who is True, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens:
These keys are the power to announce the gospel of the kingdom. 1 Corinthians 16:9 For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries. 2 Corinthians 2:12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,
Just as power was given to Peter, Jesus has also given us the same power; the same keys. Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
I know a woman who had a dream. In the dream, she was given a new car. She drove it to a shopping center. She got out of the car and put the keys in her pocket. While walking around the stores shopping, she realized how the time had passed by and the stores were starting to close. She looked for her keys to leave but couldn’t find them. As she looked for them, she saw a lady closing the last store. She said to the lady “I’m looking for my keys, but I can’t seem to find them. The lady replied “Go to the man who’s in charge of closing down the shopping center. He hasn’t left, yet. Maybe someone has found your keys and turned them in to him. Go; maybe he has them. At this, the woman woke up from her dream.
This signifies that the Lord has put in our hands something of great value which is the Word of God. He has given us the power and authority so that while we are on this earth, we can announce the Good News by way of ministries and gifts of the Spirit. But many times, we don’t give the value or the importance to what God has put in our hands; which is His beloved Son, Jesus Christ. This “losing of the keys” signifies that we give very little importance and very little value to things of the kingdom of God. Job 6:18 The paths of their way turn aside, they go nowhere and perish. Ecclesiastes 5:14 But those riches perish through misfortune; When he begets a son, there is nothing in his hand.
When God reveals the future, His purpose is not to simply satisfy our curiosity. His desire is that we would change our manner of thinking. Eternity begins today. As the Apostle Peter remained faithful to his calling and proclaimed the good news of salvation, the thoughts and plans of a person reflects his character. The Lord continues to speak to us through dreams and visions. All we need to do is repent to receive mercy. Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
What you do for the God may seem small and insignificant in the moment. But God is pleased with what you do for Him. Be faithful in the small opportunities that God presents to you. Start wherever you are. Do the best you can and leave the results to God. Matthew 25:21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful in a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ Job 8:7 Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would increase abundantly.
We give you thanks, Lord, for so you have commanded us to be a light to the Gentiles and salvation to the ends of the earth. In Christ Jesus, Amen.
