This topic captures my attention: “Lose, but also recover what you have lost.” 1 Samuel 30:1-2 Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way. To understand this and reflect on our own condition, many of us can identify with this situation that is described to us in the bible.
1 Samuel 30:4 Then David and the people who were there with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more strength to weep. We can see here how their hearts were affected by this crisis. Maybe the enemy has invaded our territory while we were away or asleep. Maybe he has stolen something from us as well as some of our most valued possessions. Whatever the situation is in your life, whatever you are going through, we must understand that the reactions can be positive or negative.
1 Samuel 30:6 Now David was distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. The sorrow of the soul signifies the deception humans feel in this type of situation; it is the loss of hope and of a vision. The enemy wants to steal your hope and your enthusiasm! The purpose of the enemy is to steal you heart, your faith, your loyalty, your self control and your stability. He knows that a heart full of hope is a heart full of life. But a hopeless heart is a dead heart. These men were so hopeless that they wanted to stone David. Many times we want to anesthetize our heart so as not to feel any pain. But we must continue the walk of faith. God gives us a portion of faith but it is up to us to feed it so it can grow stronger. And we need an enthusiasm, that relationship with our God. Many of us feel discouraged and come to the point where we ask, How long must I struggle?; When will this trial end? The message that God has for us today is: Don’t be robbed of your hope or enthusiasm. Don’t be robbed of your heart. My heart and your heart belong to God.
John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. Luke 8:12 Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. Because from the Word comes faith and from faith comes salvation. The message for today is to fight the good fight. Fight and recover what the enemy has been stealing from you, including your time. God doesn’t want frustrated, defeated, or conquered people. God wants a strengthened people. Your injuries will only heal when you stop crying and stand up to recover what has been stolen from you. Because to walk with Jesus is to advance; not to get stuck or to back up.
Restoration comes when we encourage each other. It is time to recover what has been lost. Take your place. Stand up in the name of Jesus. 1 Samuel 30:8 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” The word pursue signifies: Don’t give up, don’t stop fighting. Galations 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. The Lord says, Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10. Thank you, Eternal God, for all your blessings in Christ Jesus. Amen.
