BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN, FOR THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

The word “blessed” signifies to be blessed, content, happy, joyous and fortunate. This first word that Jesus uses is directed to the supreme desire that is in every human’s heart. That is to be happy. Happiness is a desire implanted in man’s heart by God Himself. God created us to be happy; not unhappy.

Are you happy? Sincerely happy? If you are not, you have some homework to do. What homework, you ask? Seek happiness. Jesus proclaimed that His primary purpose of the kingdom was to restore the heart of man. God gave us the liberty to decide to be happy by our own free will. Matthew 7:13-14 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

The “broad way” is easy to find. But those who strive to guard their mind from all that we are living with in this world full of a system of manipulation will find true freedom and satisfaction that perseveres in the heart and soul. Philippians 4:7 …and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

He who has true peace can be happy. Romans 5:1 “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,” Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. The word “mourn” signifies an intense and deep sorrow. Saddened. This is a deep comprehension that verse 4 speaks of. It is the deep spiritual need that induces the person to mourn. This is the “brokenness” before our Eternal Father through the Holy Spirit. John 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever”.

What the Holy Spirit does is re-encourages us. Another Helper is mentioned here. He that brings comfort. It is very important to understand this. Just as God satisfies the spiritual need with His spiritual riches from His heavenly kingdom, He also responds our mourning, and He comforts us. The Holy Spirit guides us to all truth. There are those who have very sensitive in the spirit. But there are also those that lack a sensitive heart. Blessed are those who mourn, because they look at their life and can sense a spiritual need and they are broken by God. Those who mourn a loss or for painful family situations shall receive comfort; although there may still be many things out of our reach and many things seem to have no solution and we may still ask “why?”

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I have said to you. You will understand everything in its time, and you will receive comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:5 “For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.” Luke 6:21 “…Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.” Isaiah 35:10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
